Our portrait

Did you know...

that there is solar energy in abundance?

The amount of solar energy reaching the surface of our planet is so vast that in one year it is about twice as much as will ever be obtained from all of the Earth's non-renewable resources (coal, oil, natural gas, and mined uranium) combined. Ever!

Solar power information

Some countries support the development of solar power in their countries with various financial incentives. A comprehensive source of possibilities is the “Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency” (DSIRE) from the US.

Christian Meier: energieburo was founded in 1996 by Christian Meier, currently chairman of the board. Christian holds a university degree in electrical engineering and has been working in the field of renewable energy since 1991. He designed and built his first solar power plant in 1992. On behalf of federal authorities and professional associations he has trained more than 300 electricians, roofers, and federal agents in his expert field.
For many years he was a member of the board for the solar energy association and very much involved in several sections. He was repeatedly invited to speak at  international solar conferences and is considered to be a solar expert with broad project knowledge. Many of his publications have won awards. He has international work experience in the US, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia, Peru, Bolivia, and in several European countries.

Milestones

energieburo combines consistency with innovation.

We believe that authenticity and presence are the basis for our success. At energieburo employees use the head, heart, and hands for development and realization of solar power plants. We see ourselves as system integrators, outdoing ourselves to implement the best solar system for you – as design engineers, contractors, or business partners. We will not compromise our quality because in the end our business is like any other network, if you want the electrical current to flow, the contacts and connections have to be in place and stable.

Commitment

energieburo connects head, heart, and hands

Sustainability and ecological awareness rank first while doing business at energieburo. We act with integrity to meet our commitment and encourage others to act in an environmentally responsible manner. Find below some examples of our business principles concerning the responsible use of energy.

energieburo – headquarters with direct access to and from public transport

Consciously we have chosen the location for energieburo’s headquarters close to Zurich’s main train station. This way the use of public transport for outside visitors and business travel is easy and comfortable. Important infrastructure like shops, restaurants, copy shops,  etc. is within walking distance. For longer distances within the Zurich city centre we use company bicycles. This way we save on CO2 emission and use the healthy impact of this kind of transportation. There is a bicycle available to run smaller errands on–site of every solar power plant built by energieburo.

energieburo – promotion of public and combined transportation systems

energieburo solar experts travel by train to customer appointments. If necessary, the widely available car sharing service “mobility” takes us the last leg into the most remote areas. In this way we can work on the train and arrive on time, relaxed and well prepared for our next appointment. We even managed the construction site of the largest Swiss solar power plant on the Stade de Suisse Wankdorf in Bern that way, not only saving the environment a remarkable amount of pollution but also saving us money. It goes without saying that we do not provide company cars for our employees but do provide the Half-Fare travel card for public transportation in Switzerland.

energieburo - voluntary CO2 offsetting measures

Where climate-impacting emissions produced by our daily business cannot be avoided or reduced, we make it our business to compensate. We constantly support “myclimate” projects around the world that reduce greenhouse gases. We make up for unavoidable climate-impacting emissions produced by the company in Switzerland by applying renewable energy technology, implementing energy efficiency measures, or reducing methane emissions in emerging countries in the same amount. For this commitment we have been awarded the “climate neutral” label for our company.

energieburo – office life with renewable energies and energy efficiency

energieburo uses 100% electricity from renewable sources (water, solar, wind). Natural resources are conserved wherever possible throughout the office day. Working places are optimally situated toward the windows in order to use as much daylight as possible. Only energy-efficient lighting products are used on our premises and all electrical equipment is switched off completely at the end of each working day to eliminate standby electricity. Since paper is one thing our office could not do without, we purchase only recycled paper. We avoid waste where possible; otherwise of course waste is separated and appropriately recycled.

energieburo – social commitment

An important plus for our employees is to be able to remain true to themselves. Things are done the way they should be done: straightforward and from the heart. We are an equal opportunity employer who also treats external partners and customers with the utmost respect without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Whenever possible, energieburo works with “Züriwerk”, a local sheltered workshop for disabled persons. Each year for Christmas generous donations go to several national and international good causes instead of making expensive customer gifts on the occasion. Our approach to find the best solution is holistic and prudent. It is part of our company culture to turn creative ideas into groundbreaking solutions. Our solutions are devised to conserve natural resources by saving materials or to result in shorter installation times and in safer work environments. Since operational safety on our construction sites comes first, we spend a lot of time instructing and training our temporary and new staff. Manuals document how to minimize risk of accidents.
Employees at energieburo, even in management positions, are enabled to work part-time in order to balance work and family life.

energieburo combines sustainability with return on investment.

The best marketing is when others do it for you. As early as 2001, energieburo was selected by a leading Swiss bank for an image campaign, because both shared important values: trust, integrity, quality, and profitability. Values that are also important to our customers when building solar power plants. Design and functionality  are added while  building the exterior or interior, as for example with the solar cells integrated into the glass roof over the entry of the headquarters of the largest Swiss superstore - best positioning guaranteed.
