Ideally integrated solar power plant 2662 m above sea level in the Swiss Alps.
The largest facade integrated solar power plant in the Swiss Alps with an installed peak power of 10 kWp was connected to the grid in 2002. It is located at 2665 m altitude on the south facing façade of the Swiss Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research on Weissfluhjoch. Over the next decades the 70 sqm solar cells will produce about 10’000 kWh solar power per year.
The solar power plant attracted attention, not only because of its refined use of technology. It was also designed in terms of area and color in a way that the solar modules stand in contrast to the brick-built substructure without disrupting the overall picture. The building structure was designed by the famous Swiss architect Rudolf Gaberel.
